Norse adds building maintenance to city council contracts
April 2010

Norse Commercial Services has been awarded a multi-million pound buildings maintenance contract with Norwich City Council.

The contract, which started on 1 April this year, sees the Norwich based facilities management firm providing the £1 million per year contract for the council’s building maintenance services.

The initial three-year contract is extendable for a further three years and covers both planned and preventative maintenance and repairs of the buildings' fabric.

"This is a significant win for Norse and it consolidates our involvement within the council's services provision and day-to-day working environment" said Sales Director Geoff Tucker.

The contract is the third that Norse has recently won under the council's current contractor review, coming on top of agreements for the city centre multi-storey car parks cleaning and civic building cleaning.

The contracts are worth a combined annual value in excess of £1.5 million.

Alan Waters, executive member for corporate resources and governance for Norwich City Council, said: “We are delighted to be working with Norse on the delivery of these contracts and we are working together to ensure a smooth transfer of staff and services.”

Tony Williams, director of the Norse Group, and member with responsibility for commercial services for Norfolk County Council, said: “Norse has contracts with several local authorities in Norfolk, Suffolk and further afield.  These latest contract wins strengthen Norse’s position as a leader in developing public and private partnerships and we look forward to building a strong relationship with Norwich City Council.”

As part of the contract the existing staff will transfer to Norse under a Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (TUPE) which preserves employees' terms and conditions when a business is transferred to a new employer.
