Training & Development
We provide training to all staff to increase the efficiency of the service and to ensure job satisfaction. Training is aimed at helping staff perform more effectively and to give them the opportunity for self-development, and unltimately to provide a professional quality service to customers and clients. Our catering staff undergo both on-the-job training and craft training through local colleges.
All catering staff are given training in food hygiene to NVQ level 2 within 12 weeks of employment and refresher training every 3 years. Following inductions and the basic training of key staff members, Norse also encourage staff to take part in our various self development initiatives run in conjunction with teams, skills councils, unions and other learning advisors.

NVQ Celebrations for Catering Staff
Many of our cooks and kitchen assistants are studying hard for their NVQ level 2 in Professional Cookery. Some of them are pictured receiving their certificates at a recent NVQ celebration afternoon with Training Manager, Linda Savage.
After the success of this project Norse Commercial Services is looking to encourage more staff to gain this qualification and formalise their knowledge.

Talent Showcase
Every year we encourage NCS staff to showcase their skills by entering two competitions:
School Chef of the Year (SCOTY) - a national competition for school catering
Ready, Steady, Cook - based on the popular TV programme open to all our catering staff
Each competition is very different, but each is a platform to show how professional, innovative and dedicated staff are. And as anyone who has entered will tell you, a bit nerve racking but a lot of fun!
